Had a good day at school (albeit the kids were definitely in "rainy day" mode by the end).
Met Dad and Andrew in Santa Maria for dinner at Olive Garden.
Friday:
Taught the kids how to use the reference sections of their Social Studies textbook (gazetteer, glossary, biographical dictionary, atlas, etc.)--I don't think they've learned much else

We should really call each other up to talk about the kiddies sometime! I would love to hear your stories. And I'm sure you'll have some good tips for dealing with their rambunctiousness. Somedays you love them, they are in such a malleable stage of their lives. Others it's so hard to understand why they act the way they do, and they feel like the bane of your existence. But, here's to trucking along...
I've got an awesome rambunctiousness-buster one of my Professors taught me; I'll show it to you some time.
They are so very, very malleable...my Master Teacher and I are trying to teach them how to have intrinsic reasons to succeed (other than "my dad says he'll give me money for every A"..."No, Sam, that is an external reason; can you think of anything inside yourself?"), and just overall how and why they should be kind to each other. She's been reading to them from Chicken Soup (Kids' and Preteens' editions), and they are so interested in hearing about other children's misfortunes, and I think the idea that you should treat everyone kindly because you don't know what else might be happening in someone's life outside of school (homelessness, abuse, family problems, illness, etc.) is starting to rub off on them.
Speaking of the little devils angels, I should get to bed so I'll be bright and cheery in the morning.
Yep, it was probably us in my stepmom's car, which we're using for the summer while Andrew's in Pasadena.
Yeah, Dad got released from the Zaca Fire, was briefly assigned to cover here in SLO, and by the time he got here was re-directed to go up to Fresno area, which is where he still is.
Wasn't the final book great??? I, too, was pleased my favorites didn't get killed off. I was worried for a bit there... but it turned out acceptable. The last two Potter's had me in tears several times, they were THAT good.
