Oh I used to do the Cali 30 mile commutes. Those were nothing.
I have discovered that near Chicago? Suddenly it's a big fucking deal. Seriously, I could drive from Lodi to Sacramento (45 miles?) in less time than it can take me to drive the much shorter distance from where I am to Chicago.
I will also corroborate what Amber is saying. In CA, I had no biff with commuting from Stockton to Turlock/Sacramento, but here? Here commuting more than 5 miles can be really problematically.
How bad is the Northbrook commute? Also, how much do you care about getting hired on, considering you were pretty serious about moving on to a more different job, doing things you like with horsies, anyway?
It's not bad, especially not if the hours stay 730-400. And although I'm still looking at PONIES, it certification process takes forever, and seems to be difficult to make a living on. I'm still feeling it out, but it would suck to miss this opportunity and then decide later than ponies! isn't feasible.

my current commute is 35 miles one way, so over the course of a week ... yeah. I think you can survive 13 ;)
