in high school, i harbored a lot of anger, bitterness, and hostility towards my mother. i'm sure for her it was the same thing toward me.

i spent two hours of my night last night driving, just to eat dinner with my mom in lexington. it's funny how our eyes are opened to how unique these women are who have raised us.

As horrible as the big d-i-v-o-r-c-e has been, I must say that it has brought me a lot closer to my mother. Because she is now on her own, she's allowed to have her own opinions that are surprisingly, not as conservative as they once were. We speak almost every other day, and not just about topical issues. You're both right; it's funny how people we thought we could never understand all of the sudden become close friends, and they were your parents all along.
