I have been meaning to start doing yoga. But each time I go to a yoga class, I end up chickening out. It is not that I am afraid of yoga. I am afraid of the people. I don't want to be in the "Oh, it looks like we have a new person" position. I don't want a warm welcome. I don't want for it to be said that the instructor sees some new faces out ( Read more... )

I think you should attend another yoga class but sit in the back and don't say anything if they ask who is new :P

I suspect they would notice me. I usually fail to blend.

I agree with teenie_wishes. Yoga rules. It should be a Tenet for Living. You know, like sleep and work? Yoga should be on the top 5 list of the Daily Routine. They always ask who's new but usually instructors give modification poses for new yogis or people with injuries that don't allow for the full pose (bad back, shot knee, etc.). It looks like super hard but the crazy poses are done by very few people anyway so I wouldn't worry about looking like the new guy.

Let me know how you like it once you do try it.

BTW, I tried yoga dvd's and it's not the same as bein in the room with the instructor, the music and a room full of people and none of them are talking. It's so great.

See, a room full of people is reason for me to not do anything. I love people on their own but as a herd, all doing one thing, together, in unison.... Too much groupthink for me. I would do the opposite just to spite the group.

Do you do yoga every day?
