Prompt: "feline"
"What is that?"
"Don't worry, Emma. It's just a cat."
Emma's face screwed up tight with confusion, and Will was plesed to elicit such an adorable, if cautious, reaction from the counsellor. The fluffy contents of the pet carrier he had placed on her desk was curled up in a ball; sweet, innocent, and full of potential dangers for the germaphobe.
"It's..." she giggled. "It's cute. But it's awfully, erm..." she brushed an imaginary hair off of her desk. "Messy."
Will smiled kindly. You don't have to take it. But I thought it could be ours, you know, yours and mine. We could raise it together. Well... I'll take care of it, of course. But I thought you could come over to my place every once in a while and visit her."
Emma was moved by the blush that was breaking out over the young teacher's face and neck. She knew he was lonely on his own in the apartment, what with the divorce finalized last week, and with her putting their relationship in the slow lane until he could work out his confused feelings towards his ex wife. A pet would be perfect for him.
"I always thought of you as more of a dog person. You know, they're loving and loyal, you can take them out to the park to play... they can curl up in bed with you..." It was her turn to blush.
His smile grew, and he carefully picked up the dozing kitty. "I was. I am. But cat's... cat's are clean. Meticulous,. And sometime's... sometime's they just want to be alone. But they love you in their own way, and if you're patient and kind... they'll love you back." As if to prove his point, the kitten nestled into the crook of his arm and purred contently.
Emma had never seen such a sweet gesture.
"So what do you say? Mind giving me a hand? Figuratively, of course."
Emma smiled. "Thursday night okay?"
