Character Information
Character Name: Madoka Kaname
Fandom: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Character History: blah blah will be added
Character Personality:
Madoka is many things: kind, naïve, and definitely not selfish at all. In fact, she puts other people before herself, and believes that if she can help someone, then there’s a possibility that she can finally not be useless. This is also a key to the series, as Madoka considers herself a person who cannot do much, especially since many of the other characters have to help her instead of having her help others.
In the first few chapters of this series, Madoka is always worried and unsure about things. She puts herself down, believing that since she’s a normal person, she can’t do anything. However, when she meets Kyubey, her whole life turns around and she’s finally given an opportunity to change her fate. She is told that she has a ‘magical potential’ --- potential to become not only the greatest magical girl, or, as the series calls it, Puella Magi of all time, but also the greatest witch. One that can destroy the world, that is.
Homura calls Madoka naïve because she immediately believes that all there is to Kyubey’s contract is to become a Puella Magi and battle against witches. At this time, Homura does not know the truth about the contract, and what would occur if she actually told Kyubey her wish and became a Puella Magi.
Madoka’s kindness has absolutely no lengths. In the third timeline in episode ten, this is shown, as she tells Homura, dying, to kill her, for she does not want to become a witch, therefore, destroying the planet. Instead, she tells Homura to stop her (the Madoka of the next timeline) from making a contract from Kyubey, as well as telling her that there are still things in this world that she wishes to protect.
Another thing to note is that she really cares about people, even if she doesn’t know them very well. As long as they have met, she considers that person as a friend. In the third timeline, Madoka decides to trust Homura -- and actually kills Mami in order to stop Homura’s death. In fact, she trusts everyone easily. It’s hard for Madoka to actually doubt anyone at all. When Homura tells everyone the truth about Kyubey in the third timeline and Sayaka doesn’t trust her --- Madoka protects Homura by saying that they shouldn’t fight with each other, especially when they have a common enemy. They should just trust each other. However, the series does not roll that way, nor will it allow everyone to just get along.
When Madoka finds out the truth about Kyubey mid-series, Kyubey explains to Madoka what its job is, and how that will help the planet. Even though Madoka is mostly kind, she does get upset -- especially since she had lost one friend, and she was going to lose another because of the truth. The truth that Puella Magi mature into witches. Madoka gets angry and tells Kyubey that everyone’s lives are precious, and it doesn’t matter whether their wish is to save a good friend or something for their own selfish reasons. She believes that it’s just wrong for someone to make a contract without knowing the full truth about Puella Magi --- and the fact that Kyubey had deliberately tricked them in order to do it just seemed really saddening and unfair. Basically, Madoka believes all people should live out their lives without regret --- especially when they don’t have a soul, making them inhuman.
In the last few episodes of Madoka (specifically, the last two) we learn that because she knows the truth about Incubators, she can finally understand. Her wish is to make it so that there are no longer any witches (though now there are demons!), therefore, making it so the world does not live in sadness. Sure, nobody will remember her, but that's alright. She doesn't want to see anyone sad, and because of that, she takes all the sadness and grief. However, it's a bit contradictory because Madoka says that she no longer needs to despair because of her wish.
Due to her characterization in EP12, Madoka is extremely determined to make it so that girls all over the world (mostly Puella Magi, who have faced more despair than she ever would) don't have to despair, and they don't have to turn into witches. They no longer have to shoulder that pain and anguish anymore, and instead live a happier life.
However, it's not only the girls who are Puella Magi that she cares about. She cares about her family and friends as well. In EP11, she says, "Mom, you raised me to be a good girl. I don't lie, I don't do bad things. So will you tell me it's the right thing to do?" She believes in her friends, and even though, at first, she didn't believe in herself, once she understood about the history of the Puella Magi as well as Homura's problem -- the burden that she had been carrying this whole time, alone -- she knew what she had to do. And she did it.
Being selfless means to help others. And that's what a Puella Magi is truly about.
Powers:
Due to Madoka's wish, she has the ability to transcend time and space, giving her the power to be everywhere at once. However, this only works if she is destroying an almost corrupted Soul Gem before it becomes a Grief Seed, so this ability will most likely not work in Splendor. She also has a bow and arrow that can magically appear to shoot her targets. One arrow can turn into an infinite amount of arrows, which can teleport through time and space as well to destroy her targets.
Samples
First person: Your first person entry should be made as if your character were posting to a public network, such as Livejournal. It does not have to be their first post (ie, "OMG WHERE AM I?!"), but it does have to show that the character is perfectly aware of the fact that this is something that other people are likely to see. Please avoid excessive description in [action tags] here, as one would get in video posts - we're looking for your character's voice, the one they use for talking to others. Save the internal monologues for the third person sample.
Third Person: 300 word minimum. This is the place to show your character's inner thoughts. Give us a nice third person narrative of your character doing something, plus how they feel about it. This doesn't have to be blatant "this is what my character is thinking, designated by italics!" but should rather show your character's self via their actions and interactions with their environment.
