Thought I'd put my answer here in comments, but yes, I always thought Rudolf became part of the team. It'd be a bit of an insult to just throw him off now that his specialness wasn't needed, wouldn't it?

I think there's always somewhere in the world that's foggy on Christmas Eve, so he should always be needed . . .

That's a good answer. :) It seemed sad to just kick Rudolf off the sleigh team because of good weather......
