Our security director emails us more than anyone else combined.  The emails cover all sorts of security, or just vaguely security'ish, topics.  We get a daily intel brief of anything that's happened that day as well as credible threats (which rarely to never actually happen.)  But he also sends out random notices throughout the day if something ( Read more... )

I read your email too. It is a very traumatic event for all that survived, no matter where they were at the time- Colin especially, of course. Even being Security Director does not prepare one for such a thing.

Does the college have trained counsellors you guys can debrief with?

We don't have counselors, but the uni brought in someone, and our insurance covers a few sessions with him. I'm hoping some of the people who were hit harder will take advantage of it.

Please take this as an expression of my concern for you, but, sounds like you could benefit from the counselling even if you don't think you were hit harder. You lost a friend. It sounds to me as thought you're going through some post-traumatic experiences. Talking to someone might help.

I'm only saying this because I worry about you.

Thanks, and I do appreciate it, but I'm really okay. It's sad, certainly, and definitely hit me harder than other attacks. But I'm doing okay.

It's just weird.

sorry to hear that :( I know I was scared during elections over here last year, and the real danger wasn't anywhere near me, but close to my relatives in Karachi (where thugs were shooting at voters :/) I cried all night that night. . .

I can't imagine how I would feel if I was in your shoes!

I think worrying for people you care about is harder than being there yourself, because when you're there, you can see things directly.

I hope they were okay...

Thanks for the concern. They're ok, they were mostly just pissed!
