Yeah. That space-time continuum thing is a bitch. ;)

In Sarah Connor Chronicles, they explain that stuff by having different timelines. Jesse in 2009 is from a different timeline than Derek in 2009, and even though they both had each other in the future, they had different experiences. In Jesse's timeline, Derek was captured and tortured. In his, he wasn't.

Miles, yes, it dawned on me, eventually. :)

I saw it coming, too, but didn't think they'd actually, you know, do it. I thought for sure there'd be some kind of bait and switch or cop-out.

You're right about Sayid being a professional. I forgot, odd as that may sound.

I have NO idea where Daniel is, but I'd kind of like to find out, myself. Didn't Sawyer say something about him taking off (?) or something two episodes ago? I'm not sure. According to Wikipedia's entry on Daniel:

"After the arrival of Jack, Kate, and Hurley in 1977, Sawyer is queried by the survivors as to whether Faraday is with the DHARMA Initiative as well. "Not anymore," says Sawyer. At an undetermined point in time, Faraday is shown to be present at the construction of DHARMA's Orchid station."
