Interesting date restaurants...

I was just wondering if any of you guys had any different and interesting restaurant/cafe recommendations (eg Garuva) or info about any kinds of cool dinner date options. For example we heard about a dinner date where you get to row a kayak (nothing too sporty) up the river to a little restaurant where they serve you a special dinner. I'm sure ( Read more... )

No word of a lie here - I went to Garuva's for dinner one night (quite some time ago) and sat on a dead rat. The rat had been dead for so long that it had dessicated. At first I didn't know what it was and I peeled it off my leg and put it on the table (thinking it was a flower stem) when the girls at my table started screaming I realised what it was.

Garuva's management were absolutely AWFUL to us about it and offered a paulty $50 off our bill (there was 20 of us, so this was absolutely nothing. Were it not a friend of my husband's best mate I would have created a huge scene and stormed out.

The late arrivals at our table immediately cancelled their meals and the Garuva's people actually tried to make us feel guilty for not paying for the meals that we hadn't yet received.

The following morning I reported them to the Brisbane City Council who investigated them and then contacted me back to advise that Garuva's had (and I quote) "very poor rodent prevention & control facilities".

Terrible, TERRIBLE restaurant.

Isis - in the Valley on Brunswick Street is very nice and serves delicious cocktails

Apparently there is a Gondala (those Italian boats) that goes up and down Brisbane river that's quite romatic.

I will post more after my friend sobers up - she is a source of great venue information

Oooh I am a sucker for cocktails!!! I'll have to try it out sometime!

the restaurant is beautiful and the cocktails were great BUT I ordered the octopus and it was disgusted, it tasted off and had bits of sand in the octopus. Everyone at my table tried it and everyone spat it out in their napkins, when we finally got a hold of some service 1 hour later I sent it back and requested it be taken off my bill. The manager came and told me I was wrong it was not off and charged me for the meal I did not eat. we only saw a waitress twice and when ordering desert was told our time was up the next booking was here and we had to leave. I would strongly recommend you do not eat at this place, the worse service and food I had ever encountered.
