I need some time with my parents. An hour or two...over lunch, like I did once last year when things seemed too bad to handle ( Read more... )

I'm a CMU ECE/CompSci alum, looking at grad school in public policy. Another friend of mine, getting his IMB in a few weeks, applied to harvard for their masters in public policy program. I'm taking 'the political economy of inequality and redistribution' with this Physics guy. It's really not an unheard of transition you're thinking about ( ... )

if you love history and poli-sci more than anything else, then you should go for it. do something with your life that you can look back on when you're 60 years old and be satisfied, and not unhappy or ashamed or regretful. i often forget this myself, but we are YOUNG. there is TIME. if you end up choosing a major that doesn't work for you, there is TIME for more school. not all the time in the world, but more so than the 45-year-old who is frustrated with his job but can't bring himself to leave it.

much love, megan

You'll Get Through this... andysparty April 26 2002, 09:05:50 UTC
Do you remember the kielbasa dinner right after New Year's? Anyway, there was a lot of discussion that night about the CMU classes that you and Craig were taking. Anyway, my mother, child development specialist that she is told me something after dinner that has stuck with me ever since. She said, "Zavo doesn't want to be an engineer. It's the IR and History stuff that he really loves." I think she noticed a difference in the way you talked about your IR class, and the excitement that it generated in you. After I heard that, I paid attention more to the way you talked about class, and I have to say I agreed with her. I gues she was right. Zavo, I don't think there's a better feeling than deciding to pursue what you really love and what truly makes you happy. Histroy, etc. is still an incredibly noble field, something I'm sure you'll be successful in. I'm sure if you tell your parents what you just told us they'll understand. Best of luck, man.
