Ah, the day off. We spent half the afternoon with the same friends we chilled with last night at some cool stores...
Ax-Man Surplus, a store literally full of random shit. The place has everything you never thought you'd ever need.
Midway Books, a used bookstore with a pretty cool selection, and The Source, a comic/gaming store that was so nerdy it creeped me out.
After that, Dwight, Alex, and I went to the Mall of America for a few hours - we didn't rollerblade through and terrorize everyone, but we did ride the roller coaster (a roller coaster. indoors. granted, it was a pretty lame roller coaster, but there's something cool (and a little odd) about a coaster inside a mall. in fact, the whole place kind of gave me the creeps - as in, I hope that our society isn't headed for that sort of thing...air conditioned building made to look like it's outside, but in reality there's nothing natural about it...) Did a little shopping too (hey, despite all that, it's still the Mall of America, I had to buy something) and hung out with Dwight's cousin and her friend for a bit.
The day's highlight was the evening, though. All the crowd came over to Alex's, and we played night frisbee with Dwight's lit disc, and talked for HOURS down in the basement. It's a crazy diverse group of people - I definitely want to keep in touch with as many as I can, if not all - as it got later and a few people left I ended up talking with Amy and Sarah in particular, who didn't trust Alex to give me everyone's contact info (he hasn't yet) so they gave it to me themselves. Like everyone else I met up here, they're extremely cool, and likely reading this someday, if they come across it.
I think I can definitely count all these people among my friends, and meeting Alex's crowd and family, and being part of the dynamic, has made me a little closer to him, too. This was a magnificent day.
