And now for some big sisterly advice for the fangirls…things not to do at a Dir en grey concert.

  1. Squealing. Let’s all remember that they’re not the Backstreet Boys, kids. Loud guitar riffs I can deal with, but the high-pitched girly shrieking was starting to threaten my eardrums a bit. Have none of you ever seen an attractive man before? Did you all spend the last few years locked in a nunnery with no access to television or the internet? ( Read more... )

Painfully geeky practise whereby people dress up as their favourite anime characters etc, hence the Trekkie analogy. In this specific case it usually refers to people who dress up like the band did in their very early videos, when they looked, um, kind of silly.
Plus the guy whose outfits they usually copy is 6 ft tall and about 130 pounds, so outfits designed to fit him don't usually transition too well to the average teenage girl.

Google "cosplay" if you ever need a good laugh.

Oh. I...yeah. I dunno...

i'm still kind of reeling from a friend's explanation of "yiff."

well, no.

what really did my head in was, I was snickering away at whatever wanky thing she'd pointed me at, passionately heated dialogue between various factions of furries and the ev0l anti-furry pranksters

and then i was brought up cold;

because, i realized that to a lot of outsiders? the internecine feminist wars? probably read about the same...

and for all i know they have as much bearing on the rest of the world.

this thought made me very cranky for a good several hours.

Do I want to know what "yiff" means?
You have a point, but do be fair, I think the feminism, while misunderstood, is rather better understood than furries, and more respected by most people. MRAs on the other hand seem to provoke howls of amusement from even those completely uninterested in gender politics. My Dad thought that they were the funniest thing ever.
