Here there be spoilers! Kind of.
Ask any B/B shipper to narrow down their favorite moments between our awesome duo, and they'll likely say that it is a very hard task. What with all of their epic eye!sex stare-offs, their rescues, their fabulous car banter, and their tension-filled therapy sessions, the shippers have many options. It was no easy task for yours truly, and after she had a list of about twenty moments, she found it very hard to cut in half! But she could not forego Everest (hehe) and completed the task with minimal headaches and blood-loss. The reasons why I chose the moments I did were that they perfectly showcase the uniqueness of their partnership, express their undying trust in each other, and are just flat-out adorable!
I would like to give thanks to Bones Fans Online for the screencaps and transcripts!
Here's to all Bones fans, hoping we survive
Stewiegate '09 and beyond!
1. Hotblooded
This may be an odd number one choice for my favorite moments between Booth and Brennan, but it makes sense in the larger perspective. These two are partners in homicide cases. They see dead, decaying bodies everyday. Most partners never transcend beyond just a work relationship, most partners keep things strictly professional. But what’s special about the partnership between Booth and Brennan is that they are not just partners, they are friends. There is a mutual understanding between them that goes beyond just field and lab work. One of the most unique aspects of the relationship between them is that they can have fun together. And obviously, they are not afraid to make fools of themselves in front of each other. I can’t imagine Brennan acting this way around anyone else. Booth brings out this side in her; he allows her to let loose. In a "work relationship" nothing is more important than having complete trust in each other. And this scene exemplifies this very concept, a concept that is the very basis of Booth’s and Brennan’s special connection. Plus, it’s just effing hilarious.
Getting ready for the high-kick...
...and Booth's mad drummer skillz.
BRB, LOL-ing
Oh Brennan, you're so cute when you're bashful.
Too bad Booth got blown up a second later.
2. I mean that’s our relationship? Coffee?
I love this moment because it’s the first time Brennan and Booth have to consider their relationship from a third-person perspective. Each is contemplating what their partnership means for themselves and how it has affected them personally. Booth and Brennan are both holding back in this scene- they’re scared to admit that their relationship has meant more to them than it probably should have. However, their masked feelings are revealed in how they react to each other. There are so many conflicting emotions in this scene, all told by the looks they share, especially Brennan’s last glance over at Booth.
Booth is pouty because Brennan won't 'have coffee' with him.
Brennan reasons her way out of it...
...and then gets offended that coffee=their relationship! Look at the hurt!
Meanwhile, we love Sweets because he's the biggest B/B shipper in the room!
3. That’s a lot of heart, Bones
Okay, I'm a cheat. I had to choose the whole episode of 'The Verdict in the Story' as one of my top moments. I couldn't chose just one scene, I promise! I'll explain.
This episode, which relatively closes the whole Brennan crime family saga, is one of the most rewarding conclusions to an overarching subplot I have ever seen on TV. And I have seen a lot of TV. An average show would wrap up such a plot so that it simply gives closure to the audience. This is fine of course, but what’s special about this episode is that the writers have managed to bring not only closure, but significant development to the B/B relationship. Brennan finds herself caught between her beliefs and her emotions in this episode. As a woman who fights crime on a daily basis, how is she supposed to react when her own father is facing a jury that can convict him guilty? Should she be allowed to feel worried? I mean, her father did kill someone. Of course this is where Booth comes in. He is the one who teaches her how to believe in things that are simply beyond black and white. As a person of faith, he believes in things that surpass all logical explanation. Her father killed. But he did it for her and her brother. As was stated by Brennan in Stargazer in a Puddle, "What you did was wrong, but you did it out of love". This is the complication of humanity, allowing yourself to love someone even though they can hurt you and others. Booth tells Brennan in her apartment to put her brain into neutral and her heart into overdrive. The connection displayed in this scene is a thing of beauty as she tells him, "Sometimes I think you’re really very nice". Perhaps what is so heart-wrenching about this episode is when Booth is forced to incriminate Brennan to create reasonable doubt in the jury. It pains him to admit that Brennan- his partner- could have the time to commit the heinous act. He may be under oath, but the audience knows that when he admits ‘Yes, she had the time’, he wasn’t doing it for the justice system. He was doing it for her. The ending of this episode displays everything that is right with the relationship between Booth and Brennan. She has just gotten her father off of murder charges and she is hugging him on the steps of the courthouse. Sweets asks Caroline if she is going to charge Brennan. Caroline replies, "You have to go back to school on this one Sweets. That’s a fine woman right there." And as Brennan is in her father’s arms, who is she looking at over his shoulder? The one who taught her how to use her brain and heart. The one who, in part, helped her become a fine woman.
Allow me to present my number two favorite B/B eye!sex moment in Bones history.
I'll get to number one in three more moments!
Brennan informs Booth that he may be weird, but she still thinks he's really very nice.
He reciprocates this emotion by staring at her for an inappropriately long amount of time.
Brennan looks like she's about to turn to a puddle of goo!
But then...
...
THE ZACK ATTACK! God, what a mood killer. Even Booth looks like he's about to kill him.
4. It’s okay, I’m right here, it’s all over.
In ‘Two Bodies in the Lab’, things start off pretty tense for Booth and Brennan, much like Season One itself did. They fight and they fight and they fight some more (dick431 lol), but what this scene expresses is that no matter their differences of opinion, these two characters need each other and care for one another. It was the first time they hugged, and this physical contact conveyed how they depend on each other in their high-risk careers. But, it goes even beyond that. Booth was in physical pain, but his selfless nature rose above this and it proved how he truly cares about his partner. Meanwhile, Brennan is a person who has experienced so much loss and abandonment in her life that she has foregone hope of loved ones ever coming back for her. When Booth saved her life, it was physical proof that she can trust someone, that there is someone out there who will not leave her.
Look at how she needs him!
BOOTH IS HURT AND HE STILL HOLDS ON TO HER.
I love this cap LOL *dirty thoughts* It makes think of David's commentary when he said they could rip off their clothes and do it right there.
OMG THE LOVE *DIES*
5. I knew you wouldn’t give up. I knew you wouldn’t give up.
This scene builds off the scene in my number four moment. Once again, it’s all about the trust they have in each other. What is special about this scene is that Booth has taken Brennan to church- when earlier in this episode he denied her this opportunity. One of the more important aspects of the BB relationship is their acceptance of each other’s beliefs, even though they do not agree with each other. Brennan tells him ‘I’m okay with you thanking God for saving me and Hodgins’ and Booth replies that he thanked God for saving all of them. In this moment, it is displayed that they not only have trust, they have utter faith. Faith- the ability to believe in something that cannot necessarily be proven simply because you choose to believe it- this is what their relationship is built on. And for these two, who have so many horrors in their past, their faith has been rewarded.
This woman has the most gorgeous eyes in the world.
This man has the most charming *i love you* expression in the world.
I will always appreciate how this show doesn't overdo the poignancy. It's subtle but true. And I want Brennan's jacket.
6. There’s more than one kind of family.
This moment is just pure Booth sweetness. As Brennan once again feels hurt at the sight of her family leaving her behind, it’s Booth’s that’s there to remind her of her other family- him and the Squints. It’s a moment of clarity for her, evident in how she stares into his eyes as this realization dawns on her. He stares back in confirmation of this truth. But what’s really sweet is the ending, when Brennan acknowledges this family by telling Booth ‘all of us, we’re all your Squints’. I love the sense of unity in the midst of all the detachment.
And now, I give you the indisputable number one moment of BB eye!sex. And it's not even just the number one moment of eye!sex in Bones history, but in all of television ever.

I DON'T CARE HOW ADORKABLE YOU LOOK IN THAT HAT YOU ARE OFFICIALLY NUMURO UNO ON MY HIT LIST.
JK, I LOVE YOU
7. Reason for wanting a gun? To shoot people.
I had to add this moment, not because it’s especially significant of the connection between Booth and Brennan, but because it’s just the perfect example of their incredible banter. Their relationship, while utterly lovely and adorable, provides great moments of comic relief because most of the time, they are at odds. Their differences and their perspectives conflict because they are both such convicted people. This scene never fails to make me laugh.
Because I couldn't not post the transcript for my favorite part of the scene...
BOOTH: Reason for wanting a gun?
BRENNAN: To shoot people.
BOOTH: Not a good response.
BRENNAN: It’s the truth.
BOOTH: You know, I’m writing "self defence in the performance of my duties pursuing suspected felons as contracted out to the FBI."
BRENNAN: So I can shoot them.
BOOTH: Ever been charged with a felony?
BRENNAN: Charged, or convicted?
BOOTH: Charged.
BRENNAN: You know I have.
BOOTH: I have to ask the questions.
BRENNAN: Bureaucratic nonsense.
BOOTH: Nevertheless, name of the arresting officer?
BRENNAN: You… Special Agent Seeley Booth. Do you need me to spell that for you?
BOOTH: I can sound that out.
BRENNAN: So when do I get the gun?
BOOTH: You can’t have a gun.
BRENNAN: Why not?
BOOTH: Because you were charged with a felony.
BRENNAN: Write down that you were wrong to charge me.
BOOTH: Oh, there’s no space for that.
BRENNAN: Why’d we go through all of this if you were never going to give me a gun?
BOOTH: You have a constitutional right to apply for a weapon. I would never deny your constitutional right.
BRENNAN: But I need a gun!
BOOTH: Rules are rules.
BRENNAN: Tell them that I shot a murderer who was going to light me on fire.
BOOTH: Which is why you weren’t convicted. But you did shoot an unarmed man. I… I can’t ignore that. I swore an oath to protect society from people who shoot people.
BRENNAN: It was only his leg, and he’s in jail for the rest of his life, how much is he gonna use it anyway?
Okay, so that was basically the whole scene, but you get my drift.
Here be the gist of the scene in pictures...
Booth is on the receiving end of a Brennan!glare the whole time.
He denies her.
But she begrudgingly loves him anyway!
Hey, speaking of love...
8. Nothing’s gonna change between me and you.
Okay, I couldn’t not choose this scene. It’s pure fluff, and I’m not ashamed to say that I love it more than I love my dog. Okay, that last part isn’t true, but I just needed to emphasize that I LOVE IT. This is the most touchy-feely Booth and Brennan have ever been with each other and it’s damn straight adorable. Their verbal exchanges are also the closest these characters have come to revealing their affection for each other. We have Brennan basically saying that she’s worried Perotta is moving in on their partnership, and that Booth is the only FBI Agent she wants to work with (aka I LOVE YOU). Then, we have Booth basically blowing off another woman to be with Brennan because he doesn’t want anything to change between them. This is where it became apparent to me, ‘Okay, this really is a surrogate relationship’. I mean, how they can have significant others when they are as close as they? And don’t even get me started on the way they are holding hands while ice-skating. *squeals*
I'll let the pretty speak for itself.
*head explodes*
9. I love my gift, Booth.
I had a hard time choosing between this scene and the Jasper scene, but ultimately this one won because I think the moment was more significant for the two characters. Booth knows Brennan inside and out- from daffodils to daisies to Jupiter. However, what he knows more than anything is that family is important to her, and that she cares about them no matter how much she tries to distance herself. Plus, he knows her cynical nature towards the holidays is partially just her way of reconciling that terrible Christmas she had in the aftermath of her parents abandonment. So what’s a better present for Brennan than giving her the perfect Christmas with her family? He gives her a Christmas tree to complete the celebration. And when she stares at him, telling him she loves her gift, her eyes say everything. She loves Booth because he knows what makes her happy, because he knows HER. On top of all this, it was a nice moment where everything culminated together. Booth and Brennan had both been complaining that Christmas was going to completely suck. Now here they are, both with their families, the whole moment topped with this gift that he was able to give her.
The Christmas tree is so pretty!
And so is Brennan's look as she says 'I love you my gift, Booth'
Meanwhile all the fangirls wonder why Booth is the perfect man.
Oh yeah, and Parker was there too! I love his hair.
10. I’ve done some things. I know. No, no, you don’t. But it’s okay.
Typically, Booth is the fixer. He makes things right. By the end of Season One, he has saved Brennan’s life at least two times, consoled her, been open to the pain she feels. This is because he understands people and is the selfless man who hides himself away so that he may help others. Brennan is the exact same way. She empathizes and shields herself, but unlike Booth, she can not express this empathy. Plus, her pain is much more of an open book; people know about her painful history. This is the first moment when their roles are reversed. Booth is opening up about his painful history and Brennan has to do the consoling. It says a lot about their relationship that he chose HER to talk to. Their partnership has progressed so much since the beginning, going from a respectful hostility to a respectful comfort. A part of me believes that Booth also chose her because he knows she will understand, even if she can not express it. But what is most poignant about this moment is Brennan’s reaction to Booth’s confessions. Brennan connects with people very easily, but her words are often awkward and blunt. She takes Angela’s advice and responds with a simple touch. And it’s more moving that anything words could have said, simply because she listened and was attentive. She cares enough about Booth to overcome her shortcomings and show him, in any way that she can, that he is not alone.
Brennan reaches out...
...Booth is all 'wtf?'
But he ends up thinking that Brennan is as sweet as pie and he reaches back out to her.
I love the tear that runs down the side of her nose. Guh, I wish I could convey so much love with ONE facial expression.
*Le sigh*
