Hiccups

I think that America should distinguish a phrase or comment to say when someone hiccups. You can't say "bless you", why would you need to bless someone just for having irritation of the diaphram ( Read more... )

The reason people use that, is just like the way that people will use the work "than" instead of "than". It's just something people say, and don't even realize it's incorrect to use that phrase, at that time. When someone hiccups, I either ignore them, or look at them, and say "Shut up". But, I'm just kidding when I tell them that. It makes them laugh, and hiccup more.

I correct myself. One of those "than"s should be a "then". And by "work", I meant "word".

People say "bless you" because your body stops when you sneeze. I think. I also heard that people used to think that evil spirits left you when you sneezed, so you had to be blessed or else they would go back in or something.

Yeah thats what I've heard too. That the devil can suck the life out of you if you're not blessed before the sneeze is completely released, or something. Who knows. Maybe the devil is the one irritating your diaphram too? Best watch out!
