Rep. Harris: Church-state separation 'a lie'

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws ( Read more... )

Dude, Katherine Harris is such a fuck-up. It's like, when you watch the evening news and Katherine Harris is being covered, the reaction is always going to be, "Oh, man. What did that moron do now."

She's a total train wreck, grasping desperately for political and popular support. It's kind of sad, really.

It's very silly to me, yet also extremely telling, that the Republicans in your state are distancing themselves from Harris like bunnies from a wildfire. All in despite of the fact that she engineered Bush's (in my opinion, illegal) rise to the presidency.

Do you think the Democrat running is going to win? Is there another Republican running? Do ya know any stats off-hand? :)

Yes, and I don't blame them. It's quite funny, because even George W. Bush doesn't support her -- despite her role in his election.

Bill Nelson (the Democrat and incumbent) has a way better chance of winning than Harris. Although, there's a Republican candidate, Bill McBride, who I think has a better chance than Harris against Nelson. Also, Nelson is pretty conservative. (Boo.)

You should see Harris trying to appeal to Cuban-Americans (who traditionally are conservative). She is so lame when she tries to speak Spanish. In fact, she is just lame. You can tell that I kind of loathe her.

Mmph. I don't really know any stats. But I know that I'm 100% certain that I will not vote for Harris!

Hopefully McBride and Harris will split the Republican vote, and keep the Democrat in his seat. I'm not looking for the Democrats to overthrow the Republicans in either part of Congress, but I don't want to lose any seats either. :(

Actually, my father had something to say on that score (unrelated to Harris) during one of our laughable political chats.

Separation of church and state is a joke. There is no separation of church and state, and there hasn't been since it was decided that places of worship should receive tax breaks.

In a sense, he's right. Those 'faith-based initiatives' that give tax breaks and money to church and religious organizations exclude the 'non-religious faith' groups, like agnostics and atheists. It's like how high schools won't let kids have atheist clubs, which we discussed years ago, but on a larger scale, because the supposed implication is they're anti-God or anti-Jesus.

Out of curiosity, was Unca Chuck critical or happy about his statement?

It's hard to say, really. He was pointing something out. If anything, he seemed a bit triumphant. 'I know something you don't' sort of thing.

I'm such an arrogant little minx at times, that it doesn't surprise me.

I've yet to see how Christian values align with bigotry, hatred, and power-grabbing, but perhaps I'm just a moron.

Christian people do that, it's definitely NOT the values that are corrupt.

Oops, I clarify. brittlepoetry August 28 2006, 22:17:52 UTC
I meant it in terms of how Christian people exercise their supposed values. I didn't mean to imply the values are bad.

Probably because she's a woman, batshit crazy, and long past her expiration date for the GOP's use.

I think it means a lot when a woman gets up and spouts crazy shit. The Republicans think, "OMFG a wom4n!1! Ston3 h3r!!!!" but then realize they can say with triumph to Democrats that they have a woman on their side. Yet with gals like Katherine Harris and Coulter on the right, I don't think the Democrats would want them anyway. :P
