Has anyone ever heard of putting Vaseline/petroleum jelly on a cat's paws to prevent vomiting or hairballs? The context appears to be that the cats lick the Vaseline from their paws and suddenly they don't vomit or cough up hairballs ( Read more... )

Just lemme know when you start insisting Vernon wear a tail, paw mittens, and cat ears. That's the day I can't feel comfortable having you as a friend.

Friends don't let friends wank to yiff.

See: tags.

I had to google 'yiff' to understand the true meaning, and Furry Wiki says this: "Yiff is an onomatopoetic word that was originally coined in 1990 by Foxen[1] while roleplaying his fursona littlefox. It was originally a positive exclamation in Foxen's Foxish language, but the word has degenerated over time from its original meaning of "a cheerful greeting, an energetic 'yes!'" to an expression of sexual interest or activity (see Foxish Language for details on the lexicon)."

My inner child just yelped, "Mommy!" :(

I only saw the tags later.

You know what you should do? Google "yiff" in image search.

I hate that there's a "Furry Wiki."

Yep on the Vaseline, Deerest! I used to put a little dab right in the roof of my cat's mouth so she had to swallow it. It seemed to work quite well. :P

Erm...there's actually a product one can buy to schmear over a cat's paws to stop the appearance of Presents. It has a flavour that isn't, well, Ointment.

I think it's supposed to be caramel.

Vaseline is petroleum-based and toxic. No feed to cats.

However there is indeed a substance you can put on cats' paws which they will feel compelled to lick off which will lubricate their insides to the point of preventing hairballs. You can get it at any vet's office if you describe it just that way.

At one point, when my first cat was very old, the vet had us poke a fingerful of petroleum jelly down her throat daily. Mostly this was as a laxative, I believe.

Since that time, I've tried the "hairball remedies" (on cats!) and I think they're just flavored petroleum jelly. Or at least they have the same consistency.
