it's all gonna break

I keep putting off updating and, although I know exactly what I want to update about, I'm not quite sure how to describe it accurately or if I even want to admit that the day of pure awesome is over.

Olympic Island. Toronto. Saturday, June 24, 2006. Umm wow.

I must say that I had the best company for the day; Deanna, you're awesome. We are definitely going back for a picnic with a frisbee and soccer ball and the rest of the gang sometime before school. We also must see The New Pornographers before we die so our hearts can explode some more and drown in some more music. Love for Spencer and his friends. And here's to Repaired Anti-Social Act! ("RAA! Just like..." "Related Acute Angle!" "Yes! Imagine all the math innuedno we'll have!!") Love for counting band t-shirts. Love for following the hipsters. Love for D-Mac!

As for the concert:
Raising the Fawn wasn't all that bad. I didn't mind them although I only half-listened to them as it was hot and I just wanted to get to the good stuff.
J Mascis and the Broken Mascis Scene was pretty rad although my ears were ringing from the excessive volume by the end of their set. But the real reason I enjoyed it because there was a flute so I had so much pride right there.
Feist was absolutely adorable despite being down with the flu. I wish I looked half that good when I'm sick. The sing-a-long part to One Evening was cute but her drummer needs to keep his damn mouth closed when he's playing. But, really, her set was very awesome.
Bloc Party was um...viewed from a distance. An hour and a half was spent in a long line for a hot dog and we listened from there. The people in the beer garden sure had a lot of fun during that set. We ate over by the water and had a spectacular view from our little picnic table.

Broken Social Scene. Oh my god. I know, after every concert, people always gush about the act and how much more they love them but this is nothing compared to the love you get for BSS after seeing them. Honestly, nothing compares. This is one act that you have to experience live before fully appreciating what they do. I mean, I went in there with a love for them already. But by the time the concert was ending, I was bursting with love for the whole Scene. (Except for maybe Lobsinger because she just really annoyed me. She's so useless! She barely did anything in any of the songs and her hair was just obnoxious. Really, she's the only person who could possibly pull off having obnoxious hair.)

There were countless times where I (and I think, probably, all 9999 others in the park) was just taken away by everything. From the voices to the guitars to the beautiful brass lines, there's just so much to take in. There's so much to listen to, you can't even justify a recording being even remotely comparable to it all being live. And it all makes you just want to move, it forces you to feel. From the 10 000 person double time hand clap in Star and Sons to throwing your head around along with Amy and Feist, it all comes back to just plain, raw feeling.

Deanna and I had to run at the end so we could make it to the ferry in order to not miss our train. We dodged people, arm in arm, laughing, humming the Mission Impossible theme while basically exploding with love and happy and all sorts of amazing feelings. Because, yeah, Broken Social Scene is just that good.

So I think the only thing left to share is the pictures. Note how we gradually get closer from Raising the Fawn to J Mascis to Feist. How there is nothing for Bloc Party. And how Broken Social Scene basically owns them all.

Raising the Fawn

Broken Mascis Scene

Feist

Broken Social Scene

And those are merely just the semi-decent/favourite ones.
