Very Upset and Hurt

I had a meeting this morning with a SPED professor that oversees the respite program I take part in instead of having to attend class. This professor said that she won't be recommending me for the next level of the program because I'm not "committed enough" and "have shown unprofessional behavior" and that I'm "not leadership material ( Read more... )

You need someone to come "to bat" for you - the Professor of the class that allowed you to do the name-tag work is one who could help out... The other professors who have you work for them could also argue your case as well.

Or, you could have the SPED Professor either justify the claims against you, or you can argue your case with this Professor's superior.

To deny advancement based upon rumors is extremely unprofessional. Rumors can be checked out, and I have to wonder if this had been done. I noted that you did not say that this professor came to you and asked, "I have heard this, is it true?" In other words, the judgment was made without talking to you about it first. In the work place, Employee Evaluations work the same way, and often things that could have corrected are often not even mentioned until weeks or even months afterward...

You need to plead your case if you wish to continue in the program.

Thanks for your advice,it makes me feel better that someone on the outside of all of this can see that the Professor is being unprofessional (which is what she is accusing us of being)....I just found out one of the other girls that does it with me (and we work on almost everything together) was also told she is being recommended. And she was given just as few reasons as I was. I think this professor just decided from the beginning that she doesn't like myself or my friend because we see some issues differently than she does (and she knows this) although we never try to push our opinions ( ... )

Been there... On one job I had, when I was hired, I could tell right off that the manager did not want me in the position (and actually wanted someone else). My guess is that the department looked through the applications and chose me - overruling the manager (who they did not especially get along with...). When my "Probationary Period" came up, he told me that my progress was unsatisfactory... It did not matter that the position I entered had literally NO documentation, even though the position had some definite importance. I created my documentation as I went... Still, the moment he said that, I said that I gave the job an unsatisfactory mark as well, and resigned. Ten minutes later, I could hear him on the phone - calling the candidate he WANTED to have the job. I left, leaving behind a lot more documentation than I started, and I hope the person who took the job had better luck than I did...

Good fortune on your pursuits...
