ANNIE GUESS WHAT. Grey Gardens was recently made into a musical. I really want to see it. I'm jealous. The first song in the second act is "The Revolutionary Costume of the Day," or something like that.
It's funny that you should be obsessed with Destroyer because I listened to them for the first time today. Actually, that's not true, the first time I heard them was when they opened for the New Pornos, and they kind of bored me.
But their new record, Destroyer's Rubies is really good and really weird, most definitely a grower. I once read a review of the New Pornographers comparing them to the Muppets, with Dan Bejar in the role of the Great Gonzo, and I think that extends to Destroyer's Rubies.
As for Wolf Parade, their only non-"Queen Mary" release is a self-titled EP, which, incidentally, shares two songs with "Queen Mary". Personally, I think Modest Mouse and the Arcade Fire do it better.
well OBVIOUSLY i agree about the Arcade Fire. but there is something about one of the guys in wolf parade who sings that i just CAN't STOP listening to...and Destroyer's Rubies I just got today, and am really loving.
hey, on friday, in ann arbor, Thunderbirds are now! Rescue, and a few other bands are playing at 830, so if you're up to it, we can make it a hell of a night and catch both shows? Are you in?
I love Grey Gardens. Such a funny/sad/beautiful documentary.
Thanks for the kind words about Private Eyes. I really appreciate it.
And I feel you about most of the rest of the post.
And I was gonna say what Erik said about Wolf Parade, but he is better than me cause he is quicker than I am. And thats why I got beat up at recess and he didn't. I am still bitter, Erik. Instead of running to the monkey bars, we could have stuck together.
Although, while I like Modest Mouse more than Wolf Parade, and Brock's production is very apparent on "Apologies," I think that Wolf Parade has plenty to offer on their own apart from The Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse. I guess they are a "let's wait and see..." but for now, I dig.
we only watched parts of grey garden, and i'm really anxious to finish it. have you seen the other documentaries made by this director? i'm curious to know if they are worth watching...
