Presidential Politics

Those of you who have known me a while know that I was seriously pissed at the Democratic Party for nominating John Kerry in 2004. It wasn't personal - but anyone who'd heard the man over the previous 20 years in the Senate knew he was a policy wonk. While that might be welcome in Massachusetts, it certainly was not going to play well outside the ( Read more... )

I'd rather see Edwards than Clinton. If she gets the nod for the presidential nomination, the Dems are going to alienate a TON of people.

We shall see.

I absolutely agree with you. And it won't just be conservative Democrats who are alienated. Her tepid statements about reproductive rights, and her pandering to the right, have pissed off an awful lot of liberals.

You know, I haven't decided yet which horse I'm going to back in this race (outside of knowing I'm not going to back Biden for a whole host of reasons). If you don't watch yourself, you just might convert me to the Edwards camp.

Watch the man speak. He'll convert you himself.

Edwards is the only political candidate who has ever gotten a contribution from me. Ever. And I'm 48 years old, so that's in 30 years of being a voter.

I think you'll like it.

It's sad, but I'm so cynical about politicians now. The Democrats bent over for Bush and polished his cock over and over again when they should have stood up to him...I just don't trust them. My disappointment is really that deep.

Mine runs very deep as well. I'm a registered independent.

However...I like a lot of what John Edwards has to say, and I think he gets what it's like out here for the average person. Yeah, I know he has more money than gawd, but...he didnt always.

And I am very much afraid that if the Democrats anoint Ms. Clinton or Mr. Obama, they are just handing over the white house without a fight.

Except Clinton's been polling higher than either Obama or Edwards. Christian Science Monitor just reported a poll that said 80% of likely Democratic voters would like to vote for a female candidate, but only 60% of them thought other Democrats would vote for a female. Which together suggests Hillary might be more popular than most Democrats think she is. For all the people who really, really hate Hillary, there are plenty who really, really love her. And the Clintons looooove to campaign and they're good at it ( ... )

Christian Science Monitor just reported a poll that said 80% of likely Democratic voters would like to vote for a female candidate, but only 60% of them thought other Democrats would vote for a femaleWhich goes to my point. The Democratic party could *easily* nominate her (hell, they've practically anointed her already). In a general election, I do not remotely believe she could win ( ... )

Salon has an interview with Edward's senior campaign adviser, who has the charisma of a corpse in this interview (you'll probably have to watch an ad to view the whole thing for free):

Right now, I'm leaning heavily towards Obama. But I'm in the happy position of being willing to vote for Obama or Edwards or Hillary. I've been very anti-Hillary, but I'm starting to re-think my position.

We really do expect more from women than men and that we tend to project all kinds of fantasies and stereotypes onto women and Hillary is a prime example of all sorts of popular projections. I think Hillary could be a "good enough" president and that's really all we'd require of her if she were a man.

Aside from the fact that I like what I hear from John Edwards, I really do not think that either Mr. Obama or Ms. Clinton are remotely electable ( ... )

See my last reply as far the electability of a woman. I didn't think anybody else would vote for a woman either, but it appears that a lot of us think we're the only ones who would ( ... )
