Who: John and Teddy
When: Middle of the day or so?
What: They have some errands to run.
Where: The Wall Market
Rating: I can't see this going above a G rating unless John ends up having to kill something.

Dog and Bear go for a walk. It's like a terrible children's book. )

Teddy, at a whopping twelve years old in human time, barely understood many of their things himself. He'd been shopping with Mommy when Martin was young and wouldn't let him go, riding in the kid's seat in the buggy many a time. There was a scene in grocery stores, he knew, a scene of cool heat and what Henry had called "muzak," of fresh food and of stale food, of things in tins and cans, of bottles of high fructose corn syrup...

"We will get you something pleasing to your stomach," he assured him, playfully swatting his tail as it swished. "I would like to stock up for a week or so as I have been helping Marie with some things around the trailer and may not be able to visit everyday..."

And he was toddling off towards the meat department.

John barked, following Teddy. He still didn't really understand. He understood the basic idea but "paying" still didn't make any sense to him. He didn't know much about grocery stores or the sorts of food humans ate. Best case scenario, John caught his own food, worst case he took meat where he could get it.

He whined, not comfortable really walking around this place and "shopping" like human would. It didn't make sense to him. But, for some reason, he trusted Teddy, even though Teddy was a bear. He barked again, finally picking up a scent of meat.

Teddy didn't fully understand the whole beat hate thing as he hadn't spoken much to the naked John in their time in the hot springs, but they'd seemed to have figured a kinship out despite words. He could understand some of what John meant while some was completely lost on him. He could, however, see that John's nose was twitching in the direction they were heading in.

He stood up on tip-toe, waving to the man behind the counter. He clearly knew him as he came over with a smile, asking what it would be today.

"I would like some links of sausage, three rotisserie hens, please, and about a dozen or so fish for John to have throughout the week."

He looked back at Teddy with swiveling ears. "Fish is good for your brain; Mommy told Martin that when he said he did not like it."

John did really want to explain one day. He loathed that human body more than most things, but he ended up in it more often than he'd like anyway so maybe one day he would just deal with it to explain to Teddy about Akakabuto and the problems he caused. john had been trained all his life to fight and kill big game like Akakabuto, and even though there wasn't much for him to hunt here it was a hard thing for him to shake.

John's ears went forward and he sat as Teddy ordered various kinds of meat. John barked and looked over at Teddy, tail thumping. John liked fish. They were easy to catch. And they were pretty delicious.
