let go, let go, please let me be; look at the ghost you've made of me

There's a portal open again, attached to a bridge that goes... actually a very far ways away. Jaenelle is not there. She doesn't need to be; she opened it from this side, so all she has to do is remain here. There's not a lot of time--an hour or two, maybe--before someone notices they're gone, and they have to be back before then ( Read more... )

There are places where it is safe to run fierce and free in the world he now lives in, and Zane knows them, but there's still -always- the risk that he will be seen, or that he will be careless. Was that more or less dangerous than hunting who-knew-what in the wilds of the Nexus? Njoki would probably have a much different opinion than Zane does, because here he is, legs sore from chasing something too quick to catch, panting and a little hungry, and in all honesty, this was almost always the case. Zane was a city cat, only slightly better at faring for himself in the wild than a leopard raised in a zoo might be. The beasties here had little to fear from him - he should be the one being careful.

In any case, a he catches a familiar scent in the air and starts making his way towards it. In the dark, in the forest, he's well-camouflaged. At least to things that see with their eyes alone.

She hears him coming in her mind before her ears, but that's typical; she's young and she's strong enough to wipe someone out with a blink, but she's not... stupid, and she keeps a portion of her awareness focused on her surroundings.

She's not sure she feels like being around humans right now anyway.

She pulls herself up onto a fallen tree and sits there, waiting. Her feet are bare and dirty and cold, but she doesn't really care.

Just as this beast-aspect sleeps in Zane when he's in his human form, most of Zane's human personality is asleep now, and moreso than the times in the bar when she's seen him shift. He's still aware of what he is and what he could be, but out here with no one to encourage him to be anything other than a big cat, his thoughts are much, much less complex.

Most of his concern is tied up in his senses, and right now, all he's really thinking about is that he smells something familiar, something he likes, and he wants to find where it's coming from.

It's not prey, so he doesn't crouch or sneak, but he sniffs around as he approaches, finding the freshest scent. The tree is circled, and before his large, gold eyes tilt up. Hopping onto his hind legs, he rests a forepaw against the trunk of the tree, and looks for the cub-lady.

She smells not-human; she feels not-human, with her mind open like that. Just the inner barriers. Jaenelle is more predator than she isn't, which tends to make the ones who aren't nervous, but she's still the Lady. She holds out one small, pale hand so he can smell it and confirm that it's her; she smells wilder than even most Nexus-people tend to. Her world is less industrialized than theirs, is why, and she spends so much time with the land. But there's a medicinal, chemical stink lying underneath that, like she's been... tainted.
