There's a rocky length of beach somewhere in the Nexus, not too far from "civilization", just enough that the ambient sounds are less traffic and crowd and more wave-crash and gull-call. This is familiar, Martel thinks, when he catches sight of Toshiko in the distance as he walks over the rocks. More familiar when he eventually gets close enough to recognize that it is the same woman he met here or somewhere like it once, months ago.

"Toshiko, isn't it?"

He has a good memory.

Sometimes there's comfort to be found in predictability. Tosh turns her head to look curiously toward the voice, then smiles in recognition.

"Martel, the sorcerer-scientist," she replies, nodding. "Do you spend a lot of time wandering about by the ocean?"

"Now and then," he concedes, smiling and sitting down on a nearby rock. Close enough to have a conversation, not close enough to be invading her space. "Probably not as much as I'd like to. What brings you out here?"
