This Is My Token, To The Broken

Dec 10, 2005 20:11

I don't really watch TV as much as I used to. I did today though. I turned on the TV to watch one of my favorite shows, but of course there was a commercial on. It was a State Farm insurance commercial. The ad mentioned that more people use State Farm for their insurance than any other Insurance provider in America. This started a chain ( Read more... )

dude its only propaganda. And so what if people fall for it... its there own loss. I know the passage isnt just about that. But do you really think a company is going to tell the truth about something? "Buy the TOTAL GYM 5000! It will break in about 2 weeks, but everybody is buying it!" Would you buy a product if it were advertised like that? The point of advertising is to gain customers by any means ( ... )

Just because you arent popular doesnt mean you are friendless.

Livejournal is not a way for me to gain popularity. Im trying to show alternative thought processes so that we dont all act like clones.

I said its fine to do something if its who you are. Eating at McDonalds is fine for you because you like it. But if you went to McDonalds souly because it was the cool thing to do, then thats what im pointing out here.

The advertisement wasnt the point. Its an analogy or some sort of symbolism.

I know advertising isnt the point.. I was just making a point.

I know you can have friends and still not be popular. But what I was trying to say is that in a way, isnt "wanting friends" the same as "striving for popularity?"

Sorta, but not exactly. Often when striving for popularity we change who we are for the soul purpose of gaining a very large number of friends that roll in the "cool kid" club. Wanting friends can be when you're just being yourself and hoping that there are other people like you who will accept you.

Similar but different.
