This past week was my one break in my year and a half of Korean classes. For months I had been planning on taking this week to retrieve the motorcycle I foolishly left in Omaha. Unfortunately, the month preceding my vacation was a distracted and listless one. I planned less thoroughly than befits a nearly 2000 mile unsupported ride on a ( Read more... )

Fascinating. I think if you're stating that you need a better camera and I'm seeing quality pictures from the one you have currently, it says something about your photography skills. :)

Any case, which route did you take from Omaha back to CA? I've road tripped from southern CA to Omaha and back, and generally prefer to go through Vegas and Denver. That route has its share of bad stretches though, including I-76 in eastern Colorado.

One state I'd recommend you visit, if you haven't already, is Montana. The scenery there is absolutely gorgeous; perhaps related to the fact that it's named after the Spanish word for "Mountain"...

The fact that I end up with good pictures is down to 1) pointing the camera at really beautiful scenes, 2) taking a bunch of pictures and only showing you the good ones, and 3) remembering a few things about composition from my art courses in high school. =)

This trip followed I-80 almost exclusively from Omaha to Sacramento. I took the more southern route you mentioned last fall and I liked it better. I especially enjoyed the detour I took down to Colorado Springs and then to Aspen via smaller state highways before re-joining I-70.

I'd love to see Montana, but so far I haven't had an excuse to get out there. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to follow Robert Pirsig's route (from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.)
