My father's memorial service was held last night on a beautiful, cool Ohio summer evening outside the hangar that used to hold his airplane: right between a field of hay and a field of corn, his cattle and barns visible across the road. Wow, your dad sounds pretty amazing. From your description, it sounds to me like a lot of him did in fact rub off on you, in that sense, he lives on.

...and that is what I meant by him still being here *smiles fondly* he's there in every person he touched and every thing he touched... :) I met him once and I was amazed... and I see there was a lot to take in--I wish I would have known him better :(

When I first read of your loss, I didn't know what to say. I remembered when I was first dealing with the death of my brother, and how horribly I began to hate the phrase "I'm sorry". I hated it because it seemed to be the only thing people knew to say to try and comfort me and my family, and as such almost lost its meaning immediately. Keeping this in mind I decided not to respond until I knew something better to say, but unfortunately I never could come up with much. With that said -- I know this is quite late and quite standard -- I'm sorry. If there's anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask. There may be "more willing hands than there has been work", but the offer still stands.

As for the content of this post, it's beautiful. Have you considered writing a book yourself?
