The wet is (was?) pretty rub here. I also managed to injure myself with an umbrella. Sadly, though, every other DVLA office BAR Yorkshire is flooded and closed. Gee.

You take a nice bath to get rid of the grime, yeah? Let me know if you want a hamper to pamper yourself with.

Though it'd be nice if a water pipe in your office could conveniently arrange to burst, mind, in the interest of balance. Equal opportunities flooding an' all.

Aiiiiiiieee, reading about yr umbrella-related injury made me wince like hell - for all their aesthetic attractions and rain-repelling qualities, the things can be vicious beasts indeed. Poor you :-( Hope you found some sort of antiseptic gubbins to dab on it which didn't sting horribly, and that things heal up nicely before too much longer.

A pamper hamper, now - that's a much nicer idea than getting spoked in the eye! :-D Er, as I'm sure you're in much the better position to confirm right now.

A slightly belated but by no means any less heartfelt congratulations! on your fabulous shiny degree, by the way :-) You've done brilliantly well, my gal; I hope that the *maddeningly* marginal grading didn't bitter the sweetness of success too much for you, and that much to titillate and treat the senses was indulged in by way of celebration...

Bloody hell, I wondered why people kept phoning up to check if we were still alive here in Sheffield... my windowbox flooded, the cat was a bit annoyed, and I couldn't get to Rotherham. That's the extent of the damage here, though doing anything like leaving the house is a bit chaotic in terms of travel.

Can't believe it rained so much, but it has stopped now, so we should be ok...

It did all sound pretty alarming, I must say. I was listening to Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie's Radio 2 show last night in between hoovering stints, and from some of the text messages they were receiving from listeners, it was beginning to seem like Sheffield was going the way of Atlantis...

Very glad to hear that you're safe and sound, though, pissed off cats and waterlogged windowboxes notwithstanding. I hope the transport networks get sensible again ASAP, and that the plans and appointments and things all this weather has buggered about for you can be rearranged without too much faff. Jeez.

What, the garden or the flooding?

Sorry, that was piss-poor. Though the image of a terror-stricken garden trying to break in through the patio doors as it flees encroaching flood waters is quite an interesting one...
