Brace yourself: Gwen goes ranting

Oh my god, I get so annoyed by the internet sometimes.

“Hello, this is the internet. On here, we help girls all over the world to hate themselves. How do we do that? Simple! We keep a magnifying glass over all the pictures you already see in the media and spread them around the world so that everyone can enjoy them!
So you are insecure about your looks? And you should be! You see this? These are pictures of girls that will always be skinnier than you will ever be. We will only ever show pictures of skinny girls because, you know what? You can only be beautiful when your hipbones are sticking out! Oh and look at their clothing... So feminine! And that face. Wow, their make-up is perfect! Yes, these girls are true works of arts.
What do you say? You want to look exactly the same? Why, aren’t you the dreamer? You’ll never be as pretty as the girls on the internet! Silly you...
So go, girls behind the computer! Go into this world and hate yourself. Hate your body and hate your looks. And meanwhile, we’ll keep saying that you are perfect just the way you are while we keep stuffing unrealistic ideals down your throat. Have a nice day!”

What absolute fucking rubbish. Who the hell decided that being skinny is equal to being pretty? Who the hell decided that being feminine is the proper way to look when you’re a girl?
I know the internet is not to blame; other media is a huge contributor as well. Magazines, television programmes etc. But the internet gets bigger and more important every day.
It’s so easy to look on the internet for a few seconds and stumble upon pictures of girls with a size zero and the label “Gorgeous” stamped onto their foreheads.
Where are the curvy girls? Or wait, is it impossible to be beautiful when you love and cherish your curves? Okay then. Thanks for telling me.

May I introduce myself then?
Hello, my name is Gwendolyn and I’m 19 years old. I am not skinny. The only thing that is just a tad bit close to skinny is my waist. But my skin isn’t as elastic as it should be when you’re my age, so it still eyes a bit chubby. Other than that? Well… I have plump upper legs. My hips are incredibly round. I have a bit of a tummy, the kind that plastic surgeons would love to tuck and my upper arms are flabby.
So there you have it. According to the internet and other media, I don’t fit under the label “Beautiful”. And to be honest? I don’t fucking care. I’m unique, both my personality and my physique can guarantee that.

I just wish we’d live in a world where that would be enough.

OMG -LE GASP- I'M ACTUALLY NOT SKINNY ENOUGH TO APPEAR ON THE INTERNET

rant, random bull shit
