sorry i've been slacking luke, this one is especially for you.
So i'm back from my crazy european adventure with my younger brother, Jordan. I was impressed that we were able to refrain from fighting until the last two days of our time together, most of these battles were solved by visiting an amsterdam coffee shop.
Sean and I went to London on the Friday (23) and met jordan the following day at Heathrow. We toured around the usual touristy type places in London (Westminister, Tower Bridge, Oxford, etc) and even made the trek up to St. John's Wood to find Abbey Road. We tried to take the iconic picture whilst walking across the street but I kept thinking it didn't look right. To our dismay we realized that further down the road there was another pedestrian crossing. By this time we were just too annoyed to do the whole endeavour again. Plus, I'm pretty sure motorists on that street get pretty pissed off.
Tuesday we flew to Amsterdam from Coventry via Coventry airport, which is the tiniest little shithole airport you've ever seen. This Arab man was sitting beside me in the gate and these two armed police officers came up to him to tell him that they wanted to "speak to him" in the hallway. He never returned, and never boarded our flight. EEK! We landed in Amsterdam at about 9:00pm local time only to realize that our hotel was about 10 miles away from the airport. hmmm... So the man at the information desk said, "no problem, just take the first train to Amsterdam Zuid Asserflekenfrapt, then get on Tram 5 and get off on Hubbermasfrastraat". Yeah, easy. Needless to say we got lost. we got to Amsterdam Zuid, but upon getting to this station there were no open ticket booths/information desks and all the ticket machines were in dutch. Excellent. So we ended up splurging on a 15 Euro cab ride with a man who i was pretty sure was taking us around the city a few times before dropping us off at our destination. stupid tourists.
Amsterdam was pretty cool. The weather was cold and rainy so I was pretty miserable. Our hotel was pretty shitty...and slightly sketchy too (I have strange bites all over my legs and back now after sleeping there for two days). We visited the Anne Frank House, Heineken Brewery, Holland Casino, Van Gogh Museum and countless coffee shops. Shockingly enough, weed is the cheapest thing you can buy in Amsterdam...much cheaper than food, we often kept this in mind. We went through the red light district a few times, women who looked like men writhing in window sills with their "come-hither" eyes. Others were sitting in the windows painting their nails, talking on the phone, and I think I saw one reading the dutch equivalent of "the national enquirer".
Upon arriving back in Coventry I realized that my cell phone was stolen from my luggage. I'm not sure if this happened while it was in our hotel storage or at the airport (since I wasn't using it much on the trip) but needless to say I was pretty pissed. Buying a new one was not an expense I wanted to have after such an expensive week long trip. I was also feeling like shit, I'm still on a 3 month waiting list to see a specialist here in the UK (YAY two-tier health care system!). Sean bought me the most fantastic converse all star high tops with red/white laces to cheer me up. They may not make my throbbing ovaries any better, but they sure look cool.
The Rapture this FRIDAY!
