Alright, so I found out through an article in the Baldwinsville newspaper what's going on with my brother. So he needs a bone marrow transplant. If I am a donor, which I am kinda likely, I won't be able to complete this fall semester. And if he doesn't get a donor, his cancer will most likely come back in the spring and it will kill him (since he ( Read more... )

my advice to you is that you should get checked out, and see if your a match. since you are a half sister, the chances of you and him being a match are slim to none. thats just the way it works. but if i were you i would talk to whomever is like "im charge" of his medical stuff. and be like look what am i supposed to do here? you want me to see if i am a match? then if you are then you help any way you can. and if you are not then keep going with your life. but remember if you are a match it doesnt mean you def have to donate to him. i mean it is a nice thing to do, but it is painfull and you are in college ect. do what your heart tells you. if i were you i would get tested asap so that you dont have to cancel plans or anything. you can just work things around what you need to do.

I don't think you really understand what's been going on.

I already am getting checked. It takes 8 weeks to get the results. I had it July 16th. His twin wasn't a match, and since he has a unique bone marrow thing, it is most likely someone in the family will have the same one over anyone else. (i am the next most likely person)

Of course I have to donate to him if I'm a match. He could die if I do not. I think someone's life, especially my brothers, is more important than me being uncomfortable for a few weeks. Even if I'm not a match for my brother but a match for someone else, I'll do it.

yeah it prolly is someone in the family but you never know. noone in my family was a match for my aunt or her son when they had cancer. they had to get someone outside the family. which made the whole family feel useless. it sucks. and i wasnt saying that you shouldnt donate, i was just saying you didnt have in case someone else was a match. if you are a match great. i didnt know your veiw on doing it. i was just trying to make you feel better
and i know how long the results take to come in, its hell waiting to know if you can help someone you love or not. i hope that someone in your family is a match so that he can get better. i will say a prayer for him and all that jazz. just keep your chin up. just have faith that he will get better

There is a registry of over 5 million people, none of which were matches to my brother. The odds are seeming a bit slim.
