Further to the underpants thing: If the pajama-wearing person is a toddler, does that make any difference in whether he/she/it should be wearing underpants at the same time as pajamas or otherwise?

In the case of a toddler-in-pyjamas, I think ease of garment removal trumps underwear etiquette.

no. the commando rule still applies unless said toddler is still in pull ups or nappies. in which case, they should be worn under said jammy pants.

Adults can go commando - toddlers go pantless only if well potty trained.

that rule assumes all adults are potty trained.

if they wear pj's outside the bedroom(ie Saturday cartoons) then underpants.

once they hit 10 they can do what they like.
