Walking home from the lab this evening, I'm a couple of blocks away from home, and out of nowhere comes a chicken. And it's crossing the road. Do not scoff, for I kid you not. I know not from whence it came (though it's entertaining to imagine the chicken fighting its way out of the Wendy's across the street), or

Isn't there a whole list of different answers to the question? "To die. In the rain. Alone." was supposedly Hemingway's, and Einstein's was something along the lines of, "Wait, how do you know it wasn't actually the road crossing the chicken?"

Oh yes, that's where I got this from :) I'm a big Hemmingway fan, and that's the one I found funniest. Though I must say, the Buddha answer is also pretty funky.
