When I got my first MP3 player (A huge 40GB Creative ZEN Nomad, I chunked the base buds and got a pair of active noise canceling over-the-ear headphones from Koss for about $40. When I got my iPod, my dad was trying out a set of Shure E2c in ear passive noise canceling earbuds and I got myself a pair, I loved them! I currently have a set of E2c, E3c, and some E5 that needs repair. I can't stop using them, and I hate standard earbuds, especially when the bass is so tweeked on them.
Yea, it cost me a $80 for the E2, $110 for the E3, and $250 for the E5, but I love them.
