I am totally giving up on carnivorous plants. Mine look like the two spindly ones at the bottom of the pic. I think I need to create a more pitcher-friendly environment if I want to continue with them.

Maybe I can beg a favor of you and have you design something or (the next time you're down here), look-and-advise. For one thing, I should re-plant them in larger containers.

I told you that sarracenias are not indoors plants. You have a great backyard where you could set up a nice environment for the plants - that mini pool on the side of the house could become a perfect spot for them. I'll be happy to lend a hand and get them going at your place.

Oh, the Sarracenias are outside...but they're still in their original plastic pots (he said that they shouldn't need transplanting for a couple of years?). That, and the weather here: they love the sun, but with pots that small, all we need is a dry day or three and me out of town and poof! I have dried-up plants. I thought mine had come back nicely this spring, until I saw yours: agk!

The good thing is I -think- both dogs are beyond the "let's annoy him by playing tug-of-war with this potted thing..." stage

PS: could you annotate what species/hybrids the plants in the picture are? I love the tall, green ones and the big clump of sarracenias in the middle-left.

Of the sarracenias, which are the most idiot-proof, from the aspect of care and water?

always been a fan of the unique shape of the blossoms on these guys. Still dont grow any the orchids take up much space and the climate here is less then favorable for overwintering out of doors.

That's an amazing array of plants you've got there. But how the heck do you get the water to stay in your pool on such a slope?

Gravity does not apply in the new house. I'm calling it Mystery-ier Spot. By the way, when we have the housewarming party in a few weeks, I'd love to see you, Flint, Loran and the rest of the household here. :)
