Poetry for the Soul

It's a poem I wrote back in April.

I walk alone along the street
Your headlights vanishing
Slowly in front of me
Pain that swells in my heart
Diminishes in the dark
Butterflies once in my stomach
Beating strongly, now slow to a
flutter
Cold air flows aournd, cooling me
Goosebumps appear in a
primitive attempt to warm
my body
A mile away in this small town
You blast your sereo, play
air guitar
And roll down your windows
to feel the same air
But still I'm here on this
lone strip of highway
Dust in my sandals, wind
in my hiar, stars
in my eyes
And with on little breath
I mutter
"Why"
