His life is over. Not literally, sure. And maybe he's overreacting but...he's feeling very lonely. Kevin is married and he's happy for him, he really is. He made a beautiful speech (his mom's words, not his) and danced a little. Now Joe was happy with Demi and that-it brought different feelings.
Like it bothers him. He thought it was because he's always had some kind of a crush on Demi but he's not so sure.
He spent his life pretending. He wanted to believe in what the magazines were saying. Miley. That was his first mistake. He broke her heart and he was now "the douche from the band Jonas who broke Precious Miley's heart into pieces". He had loved her. It's true. He was never the funny, partying guy. Miley was not the right girl from him.
He remembers what Joe had said back then, something like "Dude, forget about her. And try to smile, little brother". That's the thing. Joe was always so cool about things. Like nothing hurt him. He broke a girl's heart in 24 seconds over the phone. "And now she needs to write all of her songs about love, deception and broken hearts! I feel bad for Tay".
Huh. Nick always wrote songs about those things, too.

Then there was Selena. Cute, funny, light Selena. He wanted it to be strong, to be true but once again, he broke her heart. He felt like it had become a habit and he hated this image of him. A douchebag, a jerk, a heartbreaker, you name it. He didn't want to care. He did.
Joe had been there for him, the second time he broke up with Selena.
"Dude, I've been telling you to find the right girl and look at you! You're back in the game. There are girls out there who would kill to be with you. You need a little practice before settling down. You're not Kevin (soft chuckle), you're Nick Jonas!" He had patted his shoulder, half hugged him and few weeks later, Joe was telling the world he was in love with Demi.
Like a knife cutting through his soul, Nick wrote songs about love. But he was surprised when he re-read the chorus of one song. Only one name: JOE.

Nick's eyes widen and he bursts out laughing even though it's not funny.
"No, Joe, I am not in love with your dear girlfriend. I'm just...I feel, you know"
"Sure, because you just explained it to me in such wisdom words"
Then they dropped it, like they always do, never facing the issues, always avoiding the fight. Because they were brothers. Because they needed each other.
"He's the only consistence in my life; The one I can rely on; He's my brother and so much more". Scratch that. Too obvious.
More and more, I start to realize,

When Joe is on a break with Demi, it's his turn to be there for him.
"She'll come back. You're meant to be" The words sound fake but Joe smiles, always so damn cool. They hug and somehow, it's enough.
"Thanks little brother. You know what? She doesn't realize how less awesome her life is without me. Yet"
He winks and they laugh, and they hug again, and they high-five. And maybe, just maybe, the warm in Joe's body will be enough, maybe that's what he needs more. Because he knows. They'll always have each other.
