Congratulations! It's such a relief, isn't it? Suddenly, there is much more free time.....

Where are you working? Or have you started yet?

I'm working at VCU Medical Center on the Cardiology floor. It is such a huge relief! I can breathe again.

OK, so I posted the question today on student nurses about accelerated programs...you seemed to have some idea of what's going on! :0)
Can you really get a MS without being an RN???? I don't have to get an MS right away, I mean, I could work on a BSN. But if there's some sort of combined program, I'd be up for it, I think!!!

Yeah, you can get a MSN without having an RN. I started out in a second degree program at VCU right after I finished my biology degree. They offer two different programs at VCU. The first is the accelerated bachelor's program which gets your RN in 5 semesters if you already have a Bachelor's in something else. The accelerated second degree program is a graduate program where you get a BSN and a MSN. By the end of it, you get an RN and NP licenses. Both are hard core. The graduate program takes about 3 years and includes summers. You don't get a break at all in either program. I don't know where you are in your life, but it's a lot to consider. Did that help clear it up at all?

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question, I really appreciate it!
The program at University of Maryland is supposedly 16 months!! I'm like, how on earth can you become a nurse and have a Master's degree in 16 months???!!!?? I think that's why I'm scared about it, if I'm gonna be a nurse, I don't want to take a shortcut that'll make me an incompetent one.

To be quite honest, one reason I stepped myself back to just getting a bachelor's was because I want to be a floor nurse for awhile. I think it's more beneficial to me to gain the experience and then go back to school to become an NP. That's just my humble opinion. I think floor nursing will make me a better practitioner when I go back to school.
