A Sudden Realization

A childhood watching old movies has influenced me more than I thought. It occurred to me today that my view of the wealthy is taken entirely from Chaplin and Marx Brothers films. The rich are pompous, vain, capricious, often cruel, and dearly deserve a pie in the face.

ETA: But they dress well.

Based on some of the really excessively wealthy people I've known, that's not so far off.

I'm sure there are some very lovely rich people, but I haven't been around many of them.

I have no doubt that there are some genuinely altruistic wealthy people about, but I think that a certain level of self-obsession is necessary in order to become rich, and once you have the money to indulge such a feeling that's all you ever do.

I miss a good pie-in-the-face...

Oh, since you're always writing really awesome stuff, would you like to submit a post to my on-going, free-zine project? It doesn't have to be anything deep or serious, but it's cool if it is, and you'll get 100 credit for it.
