wellll. for one thing. there are shows that people watch even though they have crappy writing and crappy actors. they are daytime soap operas. which is basically what the O.C. is. except that it is aimed at teens (and despite it being a matter of opinion i think they are all very pretty). and basically people find soap operas addicting even though they are terrible, and yeahhh the O.C. is higher quality than those. seriously, the reason alot of people watch tv is to see other ppl's screwed up lives etc. soap operas just exaggerate that kind of drama so people enjoy wathcing it. i don't know if that makes any sense. but i like the O.C. sooo yes.

Yeah, I think that's a good point, because there aren't too many teen dramas out right now that focus solely on soap-opera type relationship problems, parties, and that whole traditional teen drama thing. There are elements of that whole shtick in other shows, like Gilmore Girls, but the O.C. seems to be the only show completely focused on that.

Oh man, I definitely find soap operas addicting, but for some reason I don't see the same thing in the O.C. Maybe that's because soap operas are so blatantly stupid and melodramatic that I find it easier to be entertained by them. Since the O.C. is a bit less dramatic, which to me=dull, I think that theory makes sense. But since the O.C. is more accessible to a general audience/shown at night, it would make sense the soap opera qualities would suffic for many people. Yeah, I think you're right about that.

And people definitely do like seeing others' screwed-up lives. How else would the Real World have survived for 13 seasons? :-D

Ha ha. Thanks for the "if you're a bush supporter" line. I really feel the love in your journal. :D Ha ha. Actually I wanted to say that I totally agree with you that the OC is a horrible show. Once I was at a girls house and we were all watching mulan and having a wonderful time and then she turned it off because WE HAVE TO WATCH THE OC. Yep, I almost cried. Basically you are really funny. Also thanks for mentioning Joan of Arcadia and Gilmore Girls because those are both awesome shows. And also Adam Brody can sometimes be clever. Remember he was Dave on GG.

Which soap operas do you watch? Because I uh...don't watch any... heh. yeah tell me please.

I had something else to say to you but I forgot it.

Haha, thank you for the awesome comment, I heart you. Yes, JOA and GG (yay for acronyms!) are awesome. And whoa! I'm pretty sure that spinning sound is Walt Disney whirring around in his grave at the fact that someone chose the O.C. over MULAN! Not that he made Mulan, so I guess it would be Michael Eisner. Except he's not dead. Oh, fine, I fail. :)
Yes, I agree about Adam Brody. And he sometimes ad libs his lines, which is cool.
Oh haha, I used to watch Days of Our Lives EVERY DAY when I was 8 or so (which seems a little odd to even me, come to think of it). I haven't watched it in a while, but I saw a commercial for it the other day, and I remembered its crazy addictive powers. Funny show, though a bit nasty (most of those parts went over my head when I was 8...ewwww).

Cha. Are you going to the Capitol Hill block party?

gilmore girls is the worst show ive ever seen. i used to like to watch it but then slowly i realized that i cant stomach lorili or whatver her name is. how could the writers make her so hatable? and why are all her comments so ridiculously witty yet NOT AT ALL FUNNY.

Haha. Yeah I don't watch Gilmore Girls much anymore, but Lorelai is awesome! Maybe a little annoying sometimes, but hardly O.C. level. Which doesn't say much, buahaha.

oh george "gay people suck" bush.
how i hate you.
sometimes i just wish he could like eat his dust and come out. that would be so funny. like sometime he just slips up when some journalist is asking about why he hates gay people and he is like well its because ive been denying to myself my whole life that secretly I WANT TO HAVE MAD GAY SEX all day long.

and then i would be like too bad, foolio, because you cant get married to your boyfriend. and for that, i hate you.

kay you're so smart. i've never seen the O.C. but even in partly southern california it's hard for people here to deny it's fakeness. meaning that the show is a mostly accurate portrayal of what rich people in southern california do. it looks stupid and i thouroughly enjoyed your attack. i wish i could come up for capitol hill block party. but i can't. rah. i can't wait for the eleiction. Rock the vote.

Awww, merci. Yes, rock the vote for sure. And I agree with the whole fakeness thing; another one of my big problems with the O.C. is that it's giving people a completely incorrect impression of Orange County's demographics. I remember a friend who watches the O.C. was telling me once about how she thought Orange County is stupid since "it's just a bunch of rich white people". Aghhh! Orange Country is NOT Beverly Hills! Newport Beach(where the O.C. takes place, I believe), which is a relatively SMALL part of Orange County, is fairly rich/white, but cumulatively, Orange County is over 30% hispanic! Yes. I wish you could've come to the Block Party, too. Which is why you need to visit. Now.
I <3 you!

Hi! Don't be freaked out by some random person writing in your LJ. It's just, my name in Bronagh and I went to user/bronagh there now because I'm just really used to my username being Bronagh. Then I thought I'd just have a look to see who Bronagh was. Then, when I saw you slagging off the O.C I just had to reply- I love the O.C! But I also really like the Gilmore Girls- it's on a break here because the series ended, Jess has just ran away. I hope it starts back again soon.

So, I'm a 15 year old girl, I live in Northern Ireland (Derry, to be exact) and I was just interested to see who shares my name. Is Bronagh your actual name or is it a nickname?

Hope I don't sound too random!

Hey there! Don't worry, you don't sound random at all :). Ah yes, my screenname. Well, it sounds kinda dorky, but a year or so ago I was watching a T.V. show, and one of the girls on it was named Bronagh, which I thought was like the awesomest name ever, partly because it sounds nifty and partly because it's so very Irish, and I'm part Irish. Haha, so yeah, when I got my livejournal, I wanted a name that would be short and easy to remember, so I decided to use Bronagh because it's cool. But my name's actually Kay. So yes, you're lucky to have a name as cool as Bronagh. Ermm, oh yeah, and I just turned 16, and I live in Seattle, Washington, USA. I definitely want to visit Ireland some day! How much rain do you get where you live?
Oh, and the series just ended here too, but I'm not totally sure what happened when it did 'cause I haven't been keeping up with it lately. Is the O.C. popular over there, too?

Nice to hear from you, Bronagh!
--Kay
