I'm now both reading and watching Game of Thrones. Reading (on my Kobo), I'm about halfway through part 2 of Book 5. Watching, I'm taking great care to be far behind, so I haven't got past the first series.*
For now I have only one observation.
They have kept basically everything of the blood and gore, the rapes, sexual assault, rape jokes, sex scenes, nudity. Even added some seriously graphic stuff with prostitutes.
They end series 1 with a scene which is incredibly powerful, both in the book and the series. Daenerys Targaryen, child bride, scion and last surviving member of a house which used to rule the Seven Kingdoms, has lost her husband Khal Drogo and their unborn child. To her followers' dismay, and in a scene which has you, with them, questioning whether she has lost her mind to grief, she walks into her husband's funeral pyre, into which she has equally inexplicably placed the three fossilised dragon eggs she was given as a wedding gift. Lost to the fire overnight, she emerges the next morning naked, covered in ashes, and unburnt, with three baby dragons coiled around her body.
What did they cut out?
In the book, she emerges with three baby dragons coiled around her body and suckling on her breasts.
