I personally didn't take either but here's what i have to say:
Maskin, the fire demon himself, is gone, so 1 year should be cool although I don't know who's teaching it. but i do hear that 2 year is mad overlaod on america if you wanna take AP gov, the coolest senior class ever. also COOPER IS A BITCHHOLE, seriously the program office must slip angry roofies into her coffee or something, she is not nice. so take 1 year regualr with mr shcorr. get a 99 and have a lot of fun and then take gov. word

AP 1 year is NOT taught by mr. schorr. I believe Ms. Wohl teaches it now... Mr. Schorr took Ms. Fischer's spot in teaching 2 year.

I'm in the first year of two year with Mr. Greez and love it to death, though I don't know that people with Schorr share the same opinion. I regret having the comitment for next year a tiny bit, but as of right now I feel great about the class.

(I too however have heard much of the bitchhole-ness of cooper)

I took one year with Maskin, so I don't really know what the class is like now. But. I took one year because i'm not really SO much of a fan of American history and I didn't want to make a two-year commitment to that class. And, as was already said, it's nice to be able to take AP Gov senior year (or AP Macro or Micro or Micro/Macro or AP Euro, because they offer that for seniors too, or any combination of those) without already having another AP history commitment. And yes, gov is really great.

in response to andy, i loved maskin, although i had him for regular US history and not AP (but trust me, the class was just as hard).

yea... take one year. EVERYONE i've talked to in two year is bored out of their mind by this point... and they were months ago... and they had/have months and months to go. plus if you find you're not too fond of the material you're stuck in the class for two years.

take 1 year and then take AP gov with dobbs! its actually my favorite class this year, and possibly ever, definitely in the running. you learn a lot and although it's hard, you feel like you're really learning and he makes it fun. so good so good so good.

Ms Cooper was one of my favorite teachers in science for AP 2 year. She's notorious for being nasty to people in the programming office, but she's absolutely wonderful to her senior students who know better than to worry about this or that cut or lateness. I personally loved AP 2 year. I hated Ms. Fisher, but I thought the class, unlike AP 1 year, had enough time to actually focus on history than through getting all the material in in time for the AP. Granted I was at science when maskin was teaching ap 1 year, who was very different from mr. schorr, but even if we got off topic much of the time, I still enjoyed the class more than my friends who were murdering themselves over minute details that was not even taught in class in 1 year. Also, many of the people in the second year of AP US were taking AP Gov or Macro/Micro in addition, so don't think you won't have that option your senior year
