Nagabonar Jadi 2
I had no expectations when watching this movie. I never really watched Nagabonar either, although it's been on TV multiple times and many have praised it. I watched the movie because my parents wanted to watch it, and since they're leaving for Iran next month, my brother and I are happy to indulge them. But yes, that 2 hours in the cinema was time well spent. The script was tight, the actors were pretty solid, and the chemistry between them were fine. For once, since AADC, no character in an Indonesian movie annoyed me because of it's lame characterization or actor's choice in portraying it.
Although Tora Sudiro kinda put me off at first when I heard him being cast as Bonaga, I can see why they chose him. Right now, I can't imagine anyone else for the role. Wulan Guritno (who I bumped into while buying the movie tickets, she was buying the tickets for Mr Bean though, since her daughter seems to be in charge for that night's viewing ^^) played quite well as the modern women love interest. The character doesn't make a turn around by the end of the movie by being melodramatic and needy, as other female love interest characters tend to do, but she stayed strong, opiniated and her actions spoke louder than her words. Deddy Mizwar did a great job in directing and playing Nagabonar. The choices he made made small scenes touching without being melodramatic, the comedy was great and the confusion of the elder generation in understanding today's kids is just right.
