I will be ordering some business cards tomorrow. They're free, so why not? I've got too many people asking for portraits to have to scribble my name and URL on table napkins. OH! And I registered my DBA: Brooke Borton Photography is now an official business!

I'm registering my DBA tomorrow morning. The bookings are coming in like tumbleweeds. You don't know where they come from and they're kind of hairy, but straight for you they move, sometimes swiftly, sometimes hesitantly, a little bit ominous, but with a purpose and an aura about them that says "HEEEEEEERE... HERE I COME!"

Filing a DBA for my business name is only ten bucks as a sole proprietor.  It's still fifty to form an LLC.  Not sure how much it costs to go from a sole proprietorship to an LLC but if I'm looking to do something quick so I can host a table at the event in March, I might go for the SP for now.  Waiting on a return phone call from my CPA ( Read more... )

I've been contemplating the various methods of accounting available to me as a small business owner. The only real model I have to go by in my personal experience is the way I was taught to do things with my former employer. That company has hundreds of stores, but I imagine its general practices would be just as applicable to a small business. ( Read more... )
