Years ago, my dad started reading my Livejournal.  That was fine, because back in the day I didn't really post much.  But it was kinda funny.

Today, I checked Kate's email to find...a Facebook friend request from my mother.

Has my mother friended ME on Facebook?  Of course not.

1) Facebook is the place where your worlds go to collide, and it's kind of creepy. I know my brother's on there, but we are not friended. We are on Flickr, though. I think this is a sensible line in the sand (or whatever). Fortunately, my mother, as far as I know, has not joined Facebook. She has, however, been on LinkedIn for a while, and sent ME an invite to join it, which is only slightly less weird.

2) Tell your dad that Twitter kinda only starts to make sense once you start to use it. I think of it as a combination of stream of consciousness and a conversation. Keep that in mind, and he'll do fine. :)

3) I agree. Parents in the future is a bit "cannot compute." :)

My dad has joined Twitter. He tweeted at me, then called me to see if I'd gotten it, waking me out of a sound sleep.
