"This is Cost and Revs, we're taking over."

1. I've been obsessed with the street artist Revs since he did the wheatpaste project with Cost in the early 90s. He is, I think, the most important street artist of all time. Now a video has appeared on youtube documenting the installation of one of his iron and steel pieces of street sculpture from back in 2004. Amazing.

Thanks to ST for ( Read more... )

If you've ever taken Amtrak out of Union Station to the north, then you've passed about 50 CDD tags and just never noticed them. Or I suppose they could have been painted over, which would be sad. They used to be *everywhere* in DC when I was growing up.

He was still tagging in the late '90s, but after that, I don't know.

yeah, could be I didn't notice, but odds are its been painted over.

that wikipedia entry has got me thinking about go go. I wonder about the etiquette of a 32 year old white dude going to a go go show.

I'm a big fan too. He goes out with my friend who I do a lot of urban exploring stuff with. It's kind of a great match.

why did you like revs more than cost.

i cant see the video at work, but 2004? their heyday was the 90's. the best was seeing their stuff all around europe. that and the missing foundation tag (upside down amrtini glass with slash thru it) i loved seein those pop up in weird cities that were not nyc.

Cost sort of disappeared after the wheatpaste/roller stage, while Revs kept on going with amazing subway diary project and then the sculptures. He's just incredible.

And yeah, the highpoint for the wheatpaste was the 90s, but you gotta see these sculptures, man, they're amazing.
