Obviously you have been caught in the "I'm an adult reading a childrens book therefore I will critique it as if its Tom Clancy's next bestseller". The age group that these books are aimed for won't be thinking about how well the writer portrays characters or the world. I agree that the vast majority of adults will find this piece of work lacking in comparison to anything written for adults, yet Rowling isn't doing anything that other writers haven't done before such as bringing secondary characters into the foreground when the story is lacking and then putting them back as secondary characters after the story has evolved past their fifteen minutes of fame. You seem fixated that a single book represents the entirety of the series (your reference to book four) without looking at it as an on going story. I might have missed something by not reading these books as a teenager since they hadn't even been written let alone published until I was already out of the military and I was older than you are now before I even read the first book ( ... )
