I don't even think of it in these terms. If we're talking about killing in the line of duty as part of military duties, my questions are:
1. Is this a case where deadly force is appropriate? 2. Do I have options other than deadly force which will suffice?
If the answer to 1 is yes and 2 is no, then I'd shoot. It doesn't matter whether the person in my sights is friend or enemy.
If, on the other hand, we're discussing a situation where I'm acting outside of a military context, my questions will begin with the two above and will also include:
3. Is there anyone else who can deal with this and who possesses lawful authority to do so?
If there is not, and if immediate action is required, I'll do what I feel I have to and hope a jury agrees with my reasoning.
Go to authors section...left side....and list of stories. 3 serials and some short stories (nonfiction are the nice bites of me) the fiction...well you will see. Let me know if you want me to friend you on LJ...unless your FList is like a million folks and you don't need more to read.

None at all. Each has a mother, a father, a family, and other loved ones. The death of either would be a tragedy.
It's true that in the friend's case I'd have personal knowledge of the details of the tragedy, but that doesn't make it a greater tragedy.

Oh my god, Jack Thompson was right! Video games do turn regular people into bloodthirsty killers, killing strangers and dear friends alike!
