Personally, I don't think that this $700 billion bailout is a good idea. That said, we've got to do something. The government needs to concentrate on shoring up the banks' loans and deposits, as well as providing funding for strong banks to buy weak banks. That's the only way we're going to get some long-term stability in this market ( Read more... )

I wish that Florida had good Representatives like that. Alas, all we have are Corrine Brown and Alcee Hastings running their racist mouths. At least we have Bill Nelson in the Senate.

By the way, 40% of Democrats said "no" too. That's almost half.

It wasn't all party politics. Something must have been dodgy with the bill. I'd like to see a copy of it...

Actually, it was all politics. Reelection politics. Nearly every single Representative who is in a contested election voted against the bill due to its unpopularity with the public.

It's unpopular with the public for a reason. If I were to default on my mortgage would the govt give me money to bail me out? Nope. The bank would take my house and I'd be homeless, which is exactly what these asshat CEO's etc need to have happen to them. No govt bailouts.

I agree to no bailouts in principle, but we've got to do something to bring some long-term stability to the markets. I don't know the details of my parents' investments, but I know enough to be worried. After all, my Dad will be 50 this year, and he'd like to retire at 62.
