Ben
I recently attended a memorial service for an 18-year-old boy, a friend of V's. It has taken me two weeks to write about it. Ben was a remarkable human being. I only spoke to him in passing a couple of times but it was clear to me that here was a good boy - surpassingly kind. Take a moment. Sit down with your child and play, or talk but definitely laugh. Be sure they know you love them. -
Google is a funny word.
OK Pepper. When I typed "the lovely,lovely screened porch" as my location in the last post, it became a hyperlink, so I clicked it. It sent me to Google Maps which showed me 24,796 locations, NONE of which are MY lovely, lovely screened porch. Thank God you're on the job now to fix such anomalies. -
Life is Good
YESTERDAY - Migraine, parking ticket, $500+ dental bill >:-(
TODAY - Found a Vanilla Coke at the 7-11, brought class hedgehog home for weekend, said goodbye to small people for FOUR DAYS!
TONIGHT - Possible tequila bar date with smoochie-poo ;-)

Day Off
Had the day off today. Spent the morning with A on a field trip to the local children's hospital. Was asked for my phone number by a 6-year-old boy. In the midst of freeze dancing with Healthy Bear I thought "Hey, it's my day off!" Some people design things or manage money for a living. I play play dough, freeze dance and wipe runny noses. Nephew is moving to San Francisco. Father is in Italy. Daughter has a new boyfriend. Am feeling small and insignificant in spite of just buying new shoes. -
Google
My nephew will soon head across country to start a new job at Google. This is the boy who, throughout his entire elementary school career, made every spelling test sentence about broccoli. "Confidence. I have no confidence in broccoli." It is the perfect place for him and here's why.

Old Friends
So I've been back to school 2 days now, seen all my students, and I must say I'm surprised at how much I refueled over break. I really thought I'd missed that opportunity and would return to work in the same used-up state I left.
